ABOUT BONE
BONE is an exploration of my/our/the child self and the fetal curl where we began. During creation, I used my body as the paintbrush and embodied my child self and the universal Child Self to sense their integration into the adult body.

What happens when our child self no longer controls an adult life?
What happens when our child self is free and safe?
What happens when our child self rests within us?

And

What happens when we return to the beginning?

ABOUT BODY PAINTINGS
Based in a practice of self expression through physicality, Emily creates her BODY PAINTINGS by using her limbs, skin, and human form as the paint brushes on her canvas. She paints her body and then transfers the paint from her skin to the paper through improvised movement and embodied emotion and sensation. The practice of creation itself is a meditation, a dance, a releasing, a rewilding, a birthing, and whether it is witnessed or performed in solitude, it is an artistic act unto itself. The BODY PAINTINGS explore the intersection of embodiment and expression and allow what is internal to separate from the artist, to take an external form that can be seen, touched, cherished, or discarded.

Each of these works contains imprints and traces of the artist's body and the movement that made the piece: texture of skin, smoothness from the sliding weight of bones, peaks where a thigh left the paper, traces that glimpse into the acts of creation and the human that made them.
