EMILY MICHAELS KING IS A PERFORMING ARTIST AND AESTHETIC CURATOR BASED IN ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA EXPLORING SENSORY AND TACTILE ENGAGEMENT IN LIVE EXPERIENCES THROUGH MOVEMENT, INSTALLATIONS, AND VISUAL ART. HER WORK also EXTENDS inTO THE WORLDS OF CREATIVE DIRECTION, ART DIRECTION, AND GRAPHIC DESIGN. SHE FREQUENTLY COLLABORATES WITH DEBRA BERGER TO CREATE WORK CENTERED ON THE FEMALE EXPERIENCE.
OFTEN MINIMALISTIC IN NATURE, HER PIECES EMPLOY THE LUSH LANDSCAPE OF THE INTROVERT’S INNER WORLD AND THE POWER OF SOLITUDE. They are sometimes crude and grotesque, sometimes ethereal and poetic but are unified by their movement toward a raw moment of physical and emotional surrender. She EMBRACES THE AUTHENTIC EXPRESSION OF PERSONAL TRUTH AS A WAY IN WHICH TO REACH OTHER HUMANS.
FRIDA KAHLO SAID, “I PAINT SELF-PORTRAITS BECAUSE I AM SO OFTEN ALONE, BECAUSE I AM THE SUBJECT THAT I KNOW BEST.” EMILY ENDEAVORS TO CREATE AN EXPERIENTIAL SHARED SPACE, WHERE HONESTY BEGETS HONESTY, AND TRUTH BEGETS TRANSPORTATION.
